We’ve been hearing over the years how high street stores have been suffering as more, and more shoppers are ordering online. The recent Coronavirus Pandemic has intensified the suffering for retailers. Today, with the majority of physical stores forced to close during lockdown, ecommerce has become a major lifeline for clothing, homeware and even car/motorcycle retailers. and with the recent coronavirus pandemic times are extremely tough for retailers across the UK.
Over the past few weeks, here at Media Jelly, we’ve been busy helping businesses get started with both out of the box sites such as Shopify and building custom websites loaded with extras including buy now, pay later credit facilities, membership and even training packages.
Whilst setting up an online store is becoming easier to do by yourself thanks to platforms such as Shopify, many businesses struggle to get the exposure of their site, due to lack of marketing and advertising budget. Google announced today that as of the beginning of next week, they’re making it free for merchants to sell and advertise their products on the Google Shopping tab.
This fantastic news will benefit millions and millions of businesses, as their products will receive free exposure to the many users that search products on a daily basis. Sadly this wont benefit the UK market straight away as it’ll be rolled out in the United States by the end of April and rolled out globally by the end of the year, but this will most definitely provide your business with a fantastic marketing opportunity.
Wait, there’s even more good news from the lovely people at Google, as they make it even easier for people to do business with your store; announcing a new partnership with PayPal to allow merchants to link their accounts.
Solutions during this crisis will not be fast or easy, but we hope to provide a measure of relief for businesses and lay the groundwork for a healthier retail ecosystem in the future.Bill Ready
